Problem:
A manufacturer of fluid handling equipment had a customer that required the elimination of flexible PVC from their hoses. The hoses were required to be coiled and installed around corners, which required the replacement part to be flexible and not kink when bent. In addition, the new product had to be inert to certain chemicals and be produced in high volume.

Solution:
We supplied the customer with prototypes in multiple materials, including TPE, TPR and LDPE for trials. We then developed a polyethylene/ethylene vinyl acetate (PE/EVA) blend for the body of the tube which was also lined with 0.010" thick polyethylene.

The new product possessed the flexibility and kink resistance required; it was also lined with straight low density polyethylene to accommodate the chemical resistance requirement.
